The Cokwe people live in the savannah highlands of north-eastern Angola. They are a large matrilineal people group originating from central Africa. The group have a rich and proud culture, known for their distinct artefacts.
Christianity was introduced in 1884. The IEIA (Brethren) is one of the oldest Protestant denominations in Angola, and possibly even Africa, with a long and rich history. Today, Cokwe speakers are predominantly Christian, with strong vestiges of traditional religion still remaining.
This group already have at least some scripture publications in their language, but are now wanting a poetic translation of the Psalms.
